About The New Garde with Alyssa Vingan

When it came to getting a foot in the door of the fashion or beauty business, millennials had a solid pop-cultural blueprint to guide them. From blockbuster movies like The Devil Wears Prada and The September Issue, to hit television series including “The Hills,” “Kell on Earth,” and “The Rachel Zoe Project,” industry hopefuls could tune in to get a (relatively) realistic look at climbing the corporate ranks in magazine publishing, fashion design, public relations, styling, modeling, and more.

Today, almost all of this media — despite its continued popularity and memeability — is obsolete. The traditional career track has been dismantled, as the host can attest: After ascending the masthead to the role of editor-in-chief twice, mass layoffs left Alyssa at the top of her game with nowhere to go. The only option was to create her own path, a scenario that’s also familiar to many of her peers; even those with the most impressive resumes aren’t safe from having the proverbial rug ripped out from underneath them, and those still employed by legacy institutions are forced to stand by while cracks in the foundation grow.

The New Garde will provide practical advice (and cultural commentary) on navigating the worlds of fashion and beauty, relevant to today’s precarious, ever-changing landscape. Through insightful, honest conversations with influential industry players, the host and her pioneering guests will share their expertise and the experiences that shaped them while looking ahead, discussing where we all go from here — and how to get there. Listeners can expect the sort of insider perspective and real talk they’d get from a trusted mentor, but not without a healthy dose of humor and optimism about the future.
